This was my second year attending Al-Hujjah Retreat, and as always Al-Hujjah provided an exceptional and unparalleled experience for young Muslims who wish to gain Islamic knowledge, make vital connections within their community, and foster lifelong friendships. I have been working in the Muslim community and participating in Islamic programs and events for several years, and nothing comes close to Al-Hujjah in terms of personal and shared experience. Any active and aspiring Muslim youth should make attending Al-Hujjah a top priority, especially if he or she has never participated in it before. Certainly it is a life-changing opportunity.
It is not an everyday opportunity to be able to spend an entire weekend surrounded by highly educated scholars, amazing mentors, and other individuals who may not look just like you but have the same desires and ambitions of achieiving closeness with Allah (swt). Al-Hujjah is a retreat that not only inspires its attendees but also makes sure they enjoy themselves during the retreat. From the amazing food to the late night discussions, Al Hujjah allows you to make memories that will never be forgotten. We all need reminders and wake-up calls in our lives, Al Hujjah is the place to go to get just that and so much more.
They say that with religion your spirituality levels are either going up or going down, there is no such thing as staying the same. As we all struggle in striving to submit to the will of God, Al-Hujjah acts as a much needed upward boost. Many Islamic majlises give you a sort of “Islamic high” that, although empowering, lasts only a short while. But with Al-Hujjah, it is an everlasting effect; Because while boosting your spiritual levels, Al-Hujjah concurrently grants you the tools needed to continue the growth. At Al-Hujjah I have not only learned a LOT, but I’ve also made friendships with people who are also striving to be better Muslims, and there is nothing more empowering and helpful than surrounding yourself with people who in pursuing their own religious growth also want to help you grow.
I can’t really express what an amazing experience it is to have so many people come together in a place, isolated from outside distractions, because of their drive for gaining knowledge and creating community. With inspirational speakers who touched on relevant and practical topics regarding our faith, Al Hujjah created a welcoming environment with open dialogue about how to improve ourselves as members within the larger community. Not for one second did I ever feel out of place. Even people I drove home with noticed a drastic change in my attitude. I look forward to attending Al Hujjah next year.
